Abstract: In the article the variety and importance of the shape of worm profile in worm gearboxes are highlighted. The common methods of shaping the worm coil are presented paying attention on the limitations on the freedom of their shaping. The mathematical description of the profile of worm coil shaped by disc-type tool is demonstrated. Strong effect of the worm and tool parameters on the obtained profile is presented.
