Professional Activity of a Sports Coach: Pedagogical, Psychological, and Innovative Dimensions
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article presents a comprehensive theoretical generalization of the professional activity of a sports coach in the context of dynamic societal changes, particularly in light of educational reforms, sociocultural challenges, and the integration of digital technologies into the sports domain. Based on the analysis of Ukrainian and international scientific literature, the paper highlights the key factors influencing the effectiveness of coaching: a high level of pedagogical mastery, emotional and psychological resilience, innovative flexibility, analytical thinking, creativity in decision-making, and social responsibility toward athletes and society. It is emphasized that the modern coach is not merely a specialist in physical training but a multifunctional professional who assumes the role of mentor, psychologist, team leader, facilitator of the educational environment, and promoter of health and active lifestyle values. The professional training of coaches should be interdisciplinary in nature, encompassing a broad range of competencies from methodological and technological proficiency to the ability to manage the motivational, communicative, emotional, and cognitive domains of athletes across various age groups and skill levels. Special attention is given to the psychological dimensions of coaching, including the ability to foster a positive team climate, build trust-based relationships with trainees, and individualize the training process according to athletes’ psychophysiological characteristics. The article also focuses on the importance of digital tools, such as video analysis systems, mobile applications, and online platforms, which facilitate effective health monitoring, load adjustment, and performance forecasting. The study summarizes international experiences in coach education, grounded in principles of academic mobility, interdisciplinarity, adaptability to contemporary challenges, and adherence to professional ethics. The findings provide a theoretical basis for modernizing the training of coaching personnel in Ukraine in line with global educational standards.
