Methodological Aspects of Implementing Artificial Intelligence in Primary School Education

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this article, the author examines the relevance and necessity of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into the educational process of primary school amidst the rapid digitalization of society. Attention is focused on a number of factors that necessitate research into this issue: global digitalization trends; modern challenges (ethical aspects, data security, critical thinking development, professional training of teachers); AI’s potential for learning personalization and development; and the preparation of future specialists to work in conditions of widespread AI application. The achievements of Ukrainian scholars in the fields of education digitalization, pedagogy, and information technologies, which serve as a foundation for AI implementation, are analyzed. It is determined that despite the active development of AI in higher and secondary education, the integration of AI specifically into primary education, particularly in the Ukrainian context, contains a significant number of underexplored aspects. Modern effective methodical approaches to integrating AI into the primary school educational process are analyzed to enhance the quality of learning and develop key competencies of junior schoolchildren. Various interpretations of the concept of «artificial intelligence» are considered, and the importance of a correct understanding of its role in education as a tool, rather than a replacement for the human factor, is emphasized. Specific AI functions that can be effectively used in primary school pedagogical work are analyzed in detail. These include: learning personalization (analysis of individual student needs and adaptation of learning materials); automation of routine teacher tasks (checking tests, generating reports); creation of interactive learning materials (dynamic games, virtual excursions); monitoring of learning quality (instant feedback and identification of knowledge gaps); and assistance to children with special educational needs (adapted tasks, use of voice interfaces). It is summarized that the implementation of AI transforms the role of the educator, who becomes a facilitator, learning experience designer, and mentor, combining traditional approaches with innovative technologies. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of further research into the preparation of primary school teachers for working with AI tools.
