Membranes and Their Biophysical Properties
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Biological membranes play a fundamental role in maintaining cellular integrity, regulating transport, and facilitating signal transduction. Their unique biophysical properties—such as fluidity, permeability, and electrical potential-are governed by the structural organization of lipid bilayers and associated proteins. This paper provides an overview of membrane architecture, explores the mechanisms that influence membrane dynamics, and examines their impact on vital cellular processes. The study highlights the significance of membrane properties in health and disease, with a focus on transport phenomena, ion channels, and membrane-protein interactions.
