Abstract: This is my 25th year as a professor, and some of my friends have begun to ask when I plan to retire. The truth is, I love my career and have never seriously considered retirement. I am healthy, will turn 60 next year, and continue to enjoy teaching. I have adapted to countless changes and upgrades that have reshaped academia. However, their question made me reflect on what drives people to retire. For me, the answer is relevance.
