Abstract: The British writer Rose Tremain has earned the title of a historical prose author, but she looks at history through the prism of modernity. As a successor of magic realism, Tremain incorporates its elements into her work, using them to deconstruct the reader’s mind. Elements of the characters’ lives turn out to be filled with the mythological memory of generations, and at the same time, they contain the supposed development of the problem in the future. The writer also raises the question of the interaction between language and the human way of thinking. Thus contemporary problems appear to be under deconstructive discussion in the text.
