Key settlements in the spatial development of the Russian Federation: diversity of functions and tasks

Abstract: The concept of strategic support settlements is used in the Strategy of Spatial Development of the Russian Federation until 2030–2036. Based on their use, a solution to a whole range of complex problems of spatial development of our country is planned. The article critically analyzes the functions and tasks assigned to various types of support settlements – non-urban support settlements and strategic support settlements (both non-urban and urban). Recommendations (within the framework of the current system of municipal governance) are developed to stimulate the development of Russian ONPs.
