Abstract: Purpose : This study aimed to develop and evaluate a family-centered nursing application for the intensive care unit (ICU) based on the Facilitated Sensemaking Model. Methods : The application was developed using the five stages of the ADDIE model, guided by the Facilitated Sensemaking Model. A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design was conducted from July 5 to September 6, 2023, at Dong-A university hospital. Participants were family members of ICU patients, with 28 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group, totaling 55 participants. Results : The intervention significantly improved ICU family satisfaction (t=2.26, p =.028) and self-efficacy (t=2.25, p =.028), while reducing stress levels (t=-2.27, p = .027). These findings support the application’s effectiveness as a family-centered digital nursing intervention in critical care settings. Conclusion : The family-centered nursing application based on the Facilitated Sensemaking Model demonstrated positive effects on satisfaction, self-efficacy, and stress reduction among ICU patients’ families. This study highlights the potential of non-face-to-face, evidence-based digital interventions to support family-centered care in ICUs and adapt to evolving post-pandemic healthcare environments.
