The Relationship Between Social Media Feedback, Revision Surgery Intention, and Surgical Site Decision

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of social media feedback on appearance comparison and how it influences the intention to undergo revision surgery among women who have previously had cosmetic surgeries. Methods: An online survey was conducted with 281 women aged 20–39 years, all of whom had a history of cosmetic surgeries. The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, cross-tabulation, independent sample t-tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The results revealed that participants who received social media feedback were significantly more likely to express an increased intention for revision surgery. Moreover, social media stimuli such as filters, celebrities, and influencers distinctly affected the surgical site decision. Conclusion: This study highlights the significant role of social media in shaping cosmetic surgery decisions. This indicates that a social media-driven, appearance-centered culture may contribute to a cycle of increasing revision desires for revision surgeries.
