Abstract: This article explores the significance of developing functional literacy in primary school as a foundation for successful socialization and academic preparation for further education. An analysis of modern educational paradigms reveals that the traditional fact-based approach to learning no longer meets the demands of a rapidly changing world. Functional literacy, which involves the ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-life situations, is becoming a key factor in the successful adaptation of primary school graduates. The article details four key components of functional literacy: reading, mathematical, scientific, and information and communication literacy. Specific examples of tasks and assignments are provided for each component, demonstrating the practical application of knowledge and skills. Particular attention is paid to an integrative approach to developing functional literacy, which involves interdisciplinary connections and the use of project-based learning methods. Practical recommendations are offered to primary school teachers for the development and implementation of educational programs aimed at effectively developing students’ functional literacy. The rationale for the practical developments is based on an analysis of academic literature in the fields of pedagogy, psychology, and educational technologies. The article includes an analysis of research results confirming the positive impact of functional literacy development on student achievement and personal development.
