Abstract: Relevance Well mechanized production is the most energy-intensive of all oil production processes. This is explained by the fact that the number of wells is large, they are scattered over large distances, many of them operate in inefficient modes with significant unproductive losses. Electric drives of sucker-rod deep-well pumps operate in an underloaded mode with a cyclically changing load, which negatively affects both the electrical network and the motor itself. A promising direction is the use of valve motors in drives of sucker-rod deep-well pump units. Valve motors have higher efficiency and overload capacity than asynchronous ones. This will increase the load factor of electric motors with a lower installed capacity. However, the widespread use of valve motors is constrained by their high cost, due to the use of expensive materials in the rotor design and a fairly complex control system. The process of selecting and calculating a valve motor for driving a rod pump unit is quite complex and expensive, and therefore this article proposes a method for designing electric drives for rod pump units based on a valve motor, which is distinguished by the ability to simulate the main operating conditions, which allows reducing the time and costs of performing calculations and design work when upgrading electric drives for rod pump units in order to improve efficiency. Aim of research To improve the design methodology for valve electric drives of sucker rod deep-well pump units, taking into account the characteristics of the drive mechanism of the units and the design features of the valve motors. Research methods Theoretical and experimental research methods are used to achieve this goal. Theoretical research is based on theoretical mechanics and the theory of differential equations. The following software products were used in the research: MatLab R2017b, Mathcad. Results An improved methodology for designing electric drives for sucker rod pumps based on valve electric motors has been developed, which takes into account the characteristics of the drive mechanism of the units and the design features of the valve motors.
