Abstract: In the 21st century, science is becoming more than ever a significant factor in the development of production and influencing the life of society. Scientific and technological progress affects all areas of society, including the military sphere. The aim of the article is to examine the relationship between military and civilian research and development and to focus more closely on the situation in the Slovak Republic.The first chapter of this article is devoted to the definition of military science in the system of sciences. The second chapter examines the relationship between civilian and military research and development and presents the methods of their financing. The third chapter concludes the addressed issue and provides information on the current state and planned development of military research in the Slovak Republic. The article concludes with a summary of the basic findings of the theoretical research.
