Social work education has long faced the dilemma of a disconnect between theory and practice, and a weak professional identity among students. This study takes the “topic selection practice internship” education model of a university in Dongguan as a case study to explore the innovative path of school-society collaboration in cultivating social work students under the concept of “practice leading”. This model breaks through the traditional linear training framework and constructs a three-stage advanced mechanism of “institutional immersion internship-integration of school social courses-deepening of dual mentor projects”: students go deep into social work institutions for topic selection observation before enrollment, forming a practical cognitive foundation; During school, under the guidance of dual mentors from the industry and academia, practical issues inform theoretical teaching; Ultimately, professional internalization was completed during the project-based internship. Research has found that early internship experiences reshape students’ professional cognitive schemas, prompting them to shift from “abstract concept receivers” to “problem driven learners”; The dual mentor system effectively connects the action logic of the practical field with the knowledge logic of the academic field through differentiated role division; The school community collaboration mechanism has solved the structural contradiction of course content lagging behind industry demand. Research provides theoretical reflections and practical references rooted in local Chinese experience for the cultivation of applied social work talents.
