Energy-Efficient Automatic Lighting Control Using PIR Sensors and Solid State Relays

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The project establishes automatic day-to-night light control through the combination of Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors and Solid State Relays (SSR) devices. The program uses PIR sensors to sense human presence which causes the automatic lighting activation. Through its operation, the system deploys photo sensors which enable it to detect outdoor light conditions and subsequently deactivate the lights for energy conservation purposes. Moving humans inside the monitored space will activate the SSR through PIR sensor detection which will power up the light. The microcontroller handles the sensor data to decide whether to activate or stop the light operation. The system controls the lights through a logic that turns them off when daytime ambient light levels achieve certain thresholds. The power efficiency of the proposed system occurs due to its ability to activate illumination units only during required times. This design proves cost-effective to other solutions because it removes the requirement for a manual switch. The system which historically operated for residential purposes has undergone factory adaptation to save electricity for elderly persons at home and masons operating outside of factory premises. The automatic switch system represents an easy method for detecting daytime and nighttime conditions which can decrease energy usage within homes and businesses through its automated lighting capabilities
