On the possibility of creating an active-reactive version of a grenade for an underbarrel grenade launcher

Abstract: As the combat experience during a special military operation has shown, to improve the effectiveness of assault operations it is necessary to increase the range of the standard grenade for the underbarrel grenade launcher. This issue has been repeatedly raised in the literature. The paper examines the possibilities and prospects for increasing the firing range of the VOG-25 grenade by converting it to an active-reactive version. As the modeling results have shown, this method can increase the firing range by two or more times. The use of fast-burning powders is most promising, but at the same time, due to the increase in the mass of the grenade, in order to maintain the recoil of the standard shot, it is necessary to reduce the muzzle velocity. As a result, the range is in direct dependence on the mass of the grenade and the burning rate. At the same time, there are other restrictions that are not considered in the paper: an increase in the mass limits the mobility of its combat use, and a decrease in the muzzle velocity leads to a deterioration in accuracy.
