Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article describes the structure of the seminar series in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Baku (Azerbaijan). Between 2022 and 2023, three textbooks for the proficiency levels A1-A2, A2-B1, and B1-B2 were developed in collaboration with the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. These textbooks were presented as part of the seminar series. Additionally, surveys and self-assessments of the German instructors who participated in the seminars are presented. This article is intended to serve as an inspiration for similar specialized language seminars. The focus is exemplarily on the language of computer science, and it describes the problems that both students and instructors encounter in teaching specialized languages. A particular focus is placed on various teaching methods aimed at enhancing attention in foreign language learning. In particular, the use of learning videos has proven to be highly effective in specialized foreign language teaching, as they strengthen students' memory and enable sustainable information retention and provide an effective way to acquire subject-specific language skills. To evaluate the seminar process, a survey is conducted among the participating instructors. The survey results from Baku are presented in detail and subsequently reflected upon in the conclusion.
