Cognitive models with colour names based on German and Kyrgyz languages

Abstract: Color designations, as integral elements of the linguistically shaped worldview, represent a crucial component of how language users perceive and categorize their environment. These designations are not merely descriptive; they are deeply embedded in the cognitive and cultural frameworks of a given speech community. The linguistically influenced worldview manifests itself through color terms found in individual words, idiomatic expressions, metaphors, and other verbal constructs. The color systems across different languages often display substantial variation. These differences arise because language mirrors the unique associative patterns and symbolic meanings of the culture it belongs to, shaped by historical developments and environmental factors. In this study, we examine cognitive models involving color designations in German and Kyrgyz, identifying conceptual parallels and divergences in the semantics of color terms. However, the semantic significance of color is often confined to a relatively narrow domain, particularly within folkloric and symbolic imagery. Outside of these traditional frameworks, the deeper meanings of color terms tend to diminish, highlighting the context-dependent nature of color semantics.
