Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The aim of the study is to substantiate the expediency of including units of contextually conditioned church vocabulary into the lexical category "church vocabulary" on the practical material of the works of the American writer H. P. Lovecraft. The article considers approaches to defining the composition of church vocabulary, presents a definition and composition of the subcategory of contextually conditioned vocabulary, studies the issue of linguistic context, and analyzes examples of units belonging to the category of contextually conditioned vocabulary encountered in the works of H. P. Lovecraft. The scientific novelty of the study is determined by the fact that it is the first to consider the subcategory of contextually conditioned church vocabulary on the material of the works of H. P. Lovecraft. As a result of the study, it was established that contextually conditioned church vocabulary includes lexical units that, in a certain context, act as names of objects, persons, and phenomena related to the material aspect of the life of the Christian Church, that their inclusion in the lexical category "church vocabulary" seems appropriate, and that these units are a fairly common and integral element in the work of H. P. Lovecraft.
