Intelligent Virtual Assistant for Clinical Telemonitoring in Patients With Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: an Experience Report

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: To develop and evaluate the usability and user experience of an artificial intelligence-based chatbot, named Urobot, for telemonitoring lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Materials and Methods:A prospective study was conducted with 35 patients treated at a urology outpatient clinic. Urobot was developed using the Voiceflow platform and includes features such as an interactive IPSS application, a voiding diary log, and a multimedia FAQ section. Usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS), and user experience was measured using the User Experience Questionnaire – Short Version (UEQ-S). Results:Of the 35 patients, 17 completed the evaluation questionnaires. The SUS yielded an average score of 88.3 (±6.2), categorizing Urobot as "best imaginable." The UEQ-S results showed mean scores of 2.84 (±0.21) for pragmatic quality and 2.72 (±0.39) for hedonic quality, indicating a positive experience. Despite the participants’ profile, which included individuals with low educational levels and limited internet access, the chatbot was widely accepted due to its intuitive and straightforward interface. Conclusions: Urobot proved to be effective in monitoring LUTS, serving as an accessible and practical tool that can alleviate the burden on medical consultations and improve continuous patient follow-up. Future studies should explore strategies for integration with electronic health records and promote long-term adherence.
