Abstract: The paper deals with the most common mistakes in writing ijekavisms. The corpus consisted of 594 sixth grade students’ papers from two elementary schools in Banja Luka. The analysis showed that the biggest problem in writing ijekavian reflexes is the one that concerns the vocal value of long reflexes where the component i is partially or completely reduced, so the students do not pronounce it, hence they do not write it. Such difficulties can be eliminated or, at least, reduced by raising students’ awareness that the quantity of the е component can be determined very easily, and that it is of crucial importance for the correct writing of the long reflex of jat. Alternations of reflexes in different forms of words, in word formation, etc., very often lead to mistakes. Therefore, it would be advisable to use adequate examples to draw students’ attention to the occurrence of frequent alternation of reflexes and to list the categories of words in which it occurs systematically. Various analogical generalizations of other forms result in students’ insecurity as well. However, it is a relatively small number of examples, so they should be singled out for students when presenting material on writing of ijekavian reflexes.
