Abstract: This article analyzes Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) as a strategic solution for network management through a review of thematic sources. It contextualizes the exhaustion of IPv4 and the need for transition to IPv6, describing the key technical characteristics of IPv6 and comparing them with IPv4 in terms of performance and management. The strategic advantages that IPv6 offers for modern network management are examined, including architectural simplification (NAT), scalability for the Internet of Things (IoT) era, and operational efficiency. Furthermore, the challenges associated with the implementation and transition to IPv6 are addressed, such as technical difficulties, training, and compatibility with legacy infrastructures. The methodology followed is documentary and bibliographic, emphasizing the search in updated scientific and technical sources. The findings present recent data on global IPv6 adoption, with an emphasis on educational environments, evidencing uneven growth patterns within educational processes.
