Abstract: This study aims to explore the effectiveness of group counseling services using the reality therapy approach in reducing academic stress among high school students. Academic stress is commonly experienced by students due to the pressure of a demanding curriculum, such as the obligation to take cross-major subjects, daily memorization targets, a strict grading system, and a lack of emotional support from the school environment. The reality therapy approach was chosen because it emphasizes personal responsibility, decision-making, and a focus on the present, making it suitable for helping students cope directly with academic pressures. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Six students experiencing academic stress were purposively selected and participated in group counseling sessions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The findings indicate that reality-based group counseling helps students improve time management, coping skills, and self-awareness. Students reported feeling more heard, better able to prioritize their studies, and more prepared to face curriculum pressures. These findings reinforce the role of group counseling services as an effective intervention to support students’ mental health in the high school environment.
