Cradled in Sound: Exploring the Equalizing Effect of Maternal Lullabies on Vital Parameters Among Diverse Preterm Neonates

Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between neonatal demographic characteristics—namely age, gender, birth weight, gestational age and feeding practices—and physiological responses to maternal lullaby interventions in preterm low birth weight neonates admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). A quasi-experimental design with 122 neonates assigned to control and experimental groups evaluated the association between these characteristics and changes in respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), and oxygen saturation (OS) before and after a maternal lullaby intervention. Statistical analysis ANOVA and stratified mean comparisons revealed no statistically significant associations between neonatal characteristics and any of the physiological parameters, across all time points. The findings suggest that maternal lullaby has a uniform beneficial effect regardless of neonatal demographic variables. These insights hold implications for the universal applicability of maternal lullabies in NICU care without need for demographic stratification.
