Gender and sexuality III: Reflections on, and new research questions regarding, emergent challenges to LGBT justice
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This report reflects on a key set of emergent challenges to the furtherance of LGBT forms of justice. Drawing primarily on policy developments since the inauguration of the 47th US President, it offers to geographers and allied scholars interested in gender and sexuality possible ways of connecting the current moment to existing literatures of relevance to them. First, it explores work from across Europe on anti ‘gender ideology’ discourses to pose questions regarding the US’s emerging policies regarding non-heteronormative subjects within the country. Second, it explores work on the decline of the US as a geopolitical power to present potential research questions regarding the implications for LGBT groups globally.
