Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: People living in landfills are at high risk of developing health problems therefore Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is important. This study aims to: 1). explore the PHBS of people living in landfills; 2). assess the correlation between knowledge and PHBS behavior; 3). determine the effectiveness of family-based education programs of PHBS. The design used was the Multistage mixed method. Qualitative data collection using in-depth interviews, then quantitative data collection using questionnaires, and then continued with the development and experimental testing of education programs. The target population was people living in the Sumompo Landfill. 6 participants were involved in the interviews, 82 participants in filling out the questionnaire, and 32 participants participated in the education program. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically while quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive correlation and comparison. The results of the thematic analysis obtained 4 themes. The results of the Spearman rho test showed a significant relationship between Knowledge and PHBS (p-value:0.001). The paired t-test results found that family-based education programs effectively increased community knowledge about PHBS (p-value:0.000). The government and health workers need to be proactive in providing education and sanitation facilities and health services at the landfills.
