Abstract: The figure of this graduate of the Law Faculty, Tadei Eder, has not received much attention in the legal literature so far. Perhaps this is because until recently he lived and worked, though not entirely in the legal field. Tadei Eder was born in 1943 to a family of indigenous Lvivians in Lviv, where he received his primary and secondary education. Since his youth, he had a natural talent for art, creativity and singing (he had a beautiful tenor voice). He began his career in 1967 as an artist at the opera studio of the Lviv Conservatory, then at the Honoured Choir Trembita. He graduated from the Lviv Music College in 1968 and was soon appointed administrator of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre. This position required a legal education, and in 1978 Tadei Eder entered the Law Faculty of Lviv University (part-time) and graduated in 1984 with a degree in law, which was very useful in his future work at the theatre, where he soon became the deputy director of the theatre. In 1988, Tadei was invited to become the director of the Lviv Regional Philharmonic. He worked in this position for ten years. In 1998, he was appointed General Director and simultaneously Artistic Director of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre. Here, his organisational talent, legal education and artistic abilities were fully demonstrated. He was informed that a meeting of the presidents of Eastern European countries was to take place in Lviv, namely in the theatre, in a year's time. Tadei Eder began to take an active role in restoring the paintings in the mirror hall and other works of art in the theatre, renovating the furniture, etc. He got the theatre renamed (from the name of Ivan Franko, whose memory was already widely celebrated in Lviv, to the name of Solomiya Krushelnytska, who once performed in the theatre). Under his leadership, the theatre's repertoire is being updated. On his initiative, on the occasion of the theatre's 100th anniversary, a new opera, Moses, was staged, for which Tadei Eder obtained the personal consent and approval of Pope John Paul II. On the occasion of the theatre's 100th anniversary, Tadei Eder helped to create a diving gallery in the theatre's mirror hall: S. Krushelnytska, other famous Ukrainian singers, artists, and conductors. He found sponsors and ordered updated scenery for theatre performances, beautiful costumes for the actors, and new instruments for the orchestra. Contacts were established and the Lviv Theatre began touring in various European countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Finland, Romania, France, and others. Tadei Eder met and invited the head of the Association of European Opera Houses, Nicholas Payne, who arrived in Lviv and visited the theatre. When in 2010 Lviv Theatre began to celebrate its anniversary in 2010, soloists, conductors and directors of many theatres in Ukraine and Europe came to Lviv at the invitation of the theatre director. For his outstanding artistic and organisational achievements, Tadei Eder was awarded numerous state awards and orders, medals, various honours, and received the title of Honoured Worker of Culture and various international prizes. T. Eder died at the age of 80 in December 2023 and was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery. Keywords: famous graduates of the Law Faculty of Lviv University, Tadei Eder.
