Abstract: The article examines the historical and legal dimension of the Kyivan Rus' heritage in the context of modern propaganda narratives used by the russian federation to legitimize its aggression against Ukraine. The role of the Kyivan Rus' heritage in the ideological confrontation between Ukraine and Russia is analyzed. The author is convinced that while for Ukraine, Rus', centered in Kyiv, is a symbol of its own national identity and the succession of the ancient state, for russia it is a tool used to justify imperial ambitions and aggression. The mechanisms of using the Kyivan Rus' heritage as an instrument of information warfare and imperial propaganda are revealed. The necessity of establishing the Ukrainian historical narrative about the Kyivan Rus' state as an important factor of Ukraine's national identity and sovereignty is substantiated. The author emphasizes the importance of the historical truth about the Kyivan Rus' heritage, which is an important part of the modern discourse on Ukraine's sovereignty and right to independent existence. The study is based on an interdisciplinary approach, combining historical and legal analyses.
