Abstract: . Relevance. One of the strategic directions for the development of Ukraine has been identified as improving the health of the nation through the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and increased physical activity. The implementation of these tasks primarily rests on specialists in the field of physical culture and sports. The program learning outcomes defined by the Education Standard require the search for effective ways to prepare future specialists in physical culture and sports for physical and recreational work in school and extracurricular education institutions. The aim of the study is to determine the level of the activity component of the readiness of future specialists in physical culture and sports for physical and recreational work. Material and Methods. The study involved 638 higher education students from institutes (faculties) of physical education and sports of the III–IV years of study at higher education institutions of Ukraine. 357 secondary school students also participated in the survey. Research methods: theoretical analysis of literature and Internet sources, questionnaires, testing of knowledge levels. Results of the study. A diagnostic survey of future specialists in physical culture and sports allowed us to conclude that there is insufficient development of skills in planning recreational activities for students, skills in promptly monitoring the impact of workload on the physical condition of schoolchildren, a lack of a constructive approach to physical and recreational activities, weak practical command of modern health-preserving and health-forming methodologies by future specialists; and a lack of a creative approach in most students to the organization of all forms of physical and recreational activities. Conclusions. The indicators of the practical readiness criterion of future specialists for physical and recreational activities were almost evenly distributed at the average and low levels. A high level was observed in 9.2 % of students in their ability to design and construct physical and recreational work, in 12.3 % of students in their command of health-preserving and health-forming methodologies; and in 13.9% in their ability to effectively organize physical and recreational activities.
