Abstract: This work deals with the conception and development of Professional and Technological Education (EPT) in Brazil. The research question is: What are the main characteristics of Professional Education historically constituted in Brazil? How was EPT historically constituted in Brazil? The objective is to analyze the conditions of EPT, from the colonial period to the present, in order to understand the characteristics of each moment, identifying EPT as a field of debate between the dominant class and workers. The methodology adopted was a qualitative analysis of a bibliographic nature, in which studies of books and articles by referenced authors on the history of EPT in Brazil were selected. As a result, we found that EPT has always been linked to work, whether alienated (used as a welfare and social control policy) or as an educational principle constitutive of the human.
