Abstract: The purpose of the study is the identification of visual techniques and images through which the current understanding of the classical mythological dichotomy «friend or foe» is carried out in the artistic space of a polycode text in the fantasy genre. The article examines various forms of representation of the space of «friend or foe» in cinema and video games. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the comprehensive understanding of the interpretation of the archaic dichotomy «friend or foe» in the artistic space in the context of philosophical and anthropological theories of the 20th-21st centuries. As a result of the study, it was established that the components «friend or foe», being fundamental spatial characteristics of the fantasy world, play an important role in the rational understanding of the myth in the texts under consideration.
