Abstract: We appreciate the views expressed in the letter and are in full agreement with the overall sentiment. At the same time, we do not intend to comment on the judicial processes and decisions.[1] We concur with the views on comprehensive protection at all workplaces, including healthcare facilities, and more so for women staff members who are prone to gender-based violence (both inside and outside of workplaces). A particularly disturbing aspect of the root cause of this tragedy is the unraveling of a very high degree of institutionalized corruption. It is here that political establishments and high-level officials have a responsibility and task to ensure that the enablers of corruption are minimized and a robust social accountability framework is put in place. Finally, on the applications of artificial intelligence in this context, it is our view that while there may be some specific role of newer technologies, the cardinal measures would require a strong political will and a changed attitude of senior doctors toward their junior colleagues. Any healthcare institution, and medical college systems, in particular, are social structures where established norms and power structures generate conflicting environments that can, on the odd occasion, lead to human tragedies. The urgency and imperative, therefore, is to focus back on societal-level institutional systems and put in place a framework of rules, values, and norms that shape behavior and decision-making, with common sense guardrails.
