Abstract: The heptamethylindenyl ligand (C 9 Me 7 ; Ind*) has been used to synthesise manganese complex, (η 5 -Ind*) 2 Mn, by lithiation of the proligand and subsequent salt metathesis with MnCl 2 . The solid state Mn 2+ centre is low-spin and undergoes spin-crossover.
