Abstract: One of the causes of maternal death during pregnancy is preeclampsia, which is usually characterized by increased blood pressure and proteinuria. This study aims to examine the appropriateness of using antihypertensive drugs in patients with severe preeclampsia at the obstetrics inpatient unit at Dr. RSUP. M. Djamil Padang in 2022. This research is a descriptive study with a retrospective approach using a sampling technique using purposive sampling technique. The results of the study stated that 33 patients with severe preeclampsia met the inclusion criteria. Of these 33 patients, the age group 26-35 years was the age group of patients who most often suffered from preeclampsia (72.72%), with a maximum gestational age of 28-41 weeks (96.96%). The most widely used antihypertensive drug is the Central Sympatholitics group, namely methyldopa at 54.54%, and the most widely used drug combination is the Calcium Channel Blocker and Central Sympatholitics group, namely Nifedipine and methyldopa at 36.36%. The percentage of appropriate use of antihypertensive drugs shows the right indication (100%), the right drug (93.93%), the right dose (100%), the right patient (100%), and the right frequency of drug administration (100%). This study concludes that there are inappropriate drug choices for preeclampsia patients, namely the use of ACEI drugs, namely Imidapril and Ramipril.
