Abstract: The subject under study is addressed due to the unprecedented looseness in the terminology applied today in relation to modern jewelry. As a rule, the choice of the term is conditioned, first, by the intention to disassociate with classical and traditional trends. Gadgets are frequently included in the range of jewelry. All this causes confusion, mutual misunderstanding and therefore needs additional clarification and explanation of what exactly meant the author who used these terms and concepts. In a strictly scientific interpretation of the term high-tech in jewelry, it is accepted to define the stylistics of products of the late 20th – the first quarter of the 21st century. The key parameters are innovative materials and technologies, compliance with the spirit of the time. The author analyzes the genesis of this phenomenon as a reflection of radical artistic innovations in the art of the twentieth century, which influenced the fate of jewelry as a type of plastic arts. Analysis of the evolution of jewelry and gadgets shows that throughout the century it has passed through several stages. In this series, high-tech is not only the result of the synthesis of jewelry art with innovative technologies, but the continuation of the internal evolution of this kind of art.
