Oral historical sources in the museum reconstruction of the topography of a Siberian city in the early 20th century
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The topic of the article is justified by the need to analyze and introduce into scientific circulation the materials of museum archives represented by oral historical texts. Their study is truly relevant, given how impersonal the history of many Siberian cities is. In this regard, the importance of the museum as a keeper of the results of the fixation of oral memories, its role in their interpretation and representation increases. The prospects for the reconstruction of the historical and social topography of the Siberian city are considered using the example of the Novokuznetsk Museum of Local Lore, which is significant in terms of volume and content. The array of texts of memoirs of residents of the Siberian city of Kuznetsk, supplemented by photofixation, formed by local historian V. P. Devyatyarov in the 1960s and 1980s, had not previously been introduced into scientific circulation. By referring to a wide range of sources, strategies for presenting the historical and social topography of the city of Kuznetsk in the early twentieth century in the space of the museum exposition are formulated. The theoretical and methodological basis of the article is the concepts of M. Foucault’s heterotopia and the study of "skillful memory" by F. Yeats.
