Abstract: One key goal in the social sciences instruction in primary schools is the optimization of teaching-learning processes through a study into their strengths and limitations of the participants. With this in mind, our study placed the focus on teaching-learning processes among fifth graders in the 934 School District in Medellín, Colombia. A questionnaire was conducted that targeted a group of teachers and students using a quantitative method approach that explored the same categories and subcategories in a Likert scale. Among other things, we explored the question as to why the data collected by the Pruebas Saber test showed that 56% of the fifth graders failed to score beyond the B level, the lowest in the test. After contrasting the results of our study, it was observed that the testees reached an intermediate level in the categories analyzed, the teaching-learning processes, as well as the articulating axes in the social sciences area.
