On a von Mises-type circular distribution

Abstract: We introduce a two-parameter circular family of distributions based on the traditional von Mises distribution. A comprehensive account of the general properties of the new circular distribution is provided. Maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters is discussed, and we provide a simple method to find the maximum likelihood estimates numerically. We also derive the expected Fisher information matrix for the model parameters. An empirical application to a real data set is considered to illustrate the new circular distribution in practice.
