Abstract: The purpose of this review is to present conceptions of the “Andean” in thelinguistic and spatial spheres in Colombia, based on studies of Spanish dialectology and areal typology of indigenous languages. The works selected offered proposals for dialectal or areal typological divisions with national coverage, which were then classified according to their territorial scope (narrow or broad). A greater degree of spatial uniformity was found in the narrower conception, which is based primarily on morpho-syntactic criteria, as opposed to the broader conception, which is based primarily on phonological criteria. In conclusion, the Caribbean region is included in the Andean area in areal typology but not in dialectology. Additionally, the Amazon region contrasts with the Andean region typologically but not dialectically.
