Modelling the Interaction of Anchor Opener With Soil and Seeds by the Method of Discrete Elements: Analysis of Traction Resistance and Agrotechnical Parameters
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article studies the interaction of an anchor coulter with soil, seeds and fertilizers using the discrete element method (DEM) in the Rocky Dem program. The Hertz-Mindlin and Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) contact models are used to describe the normal and tangential interaction of particles, as well as the linear springviscous model for simulating the movement of seeds and fertilizers. Model and fullscale experiments are conducted to assess the traction resistance of the coulter depending on the speed of movement and the width of the chisel. The results showed that the traction resistance increases quadratically with increasing speed and linearly with increasing chisel width. The adequacy of the model is confirmed by the Fisher criterion at a significance level of 0.95. Visual analysis of the furrow profile and the field surface demonstrated the conformity of the model to real conditions, which allows using it for agrotechnical assessment of the coulter performance.
