Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The academic journey of secondary school students in India, particularly under the SSC Board, is often marked by significant pressure to perform. This pressure can lead to stress, anxiety, and emotional imbalance, negatively impacting both academic performance and overall well-being. This experimental study aimed to evaluate the impact of a well-being intervention program developed specifically for Grade 9 students in SSC board schools. The program spanned 6 weeks and included modules focused on stress management, emotional regulation, positive thinking, and academic confidence. A total of 200 students from four SSC board schools in Mumbai participated in the study. Using a true experimental design, A total of 100 students were placed in the experimental group and 100 in the control group through random selection. A well-being scale and academic achievement scores were used for pre- and post-tests. Data were analyzed using t-tests and Pearson’s correlation. The findings indicated a significant improvement in the psychological well-being scores of the experimental group when compared to the control group. Moreover, students in the experimental group achieved greater academic progress after the intervention. The correlation analysis also showed a strong positive link (r = 0.69) between psychological well-being and academic performance. The findings highlight the need for integrating emotional and mental well-being programs within the mainstream SSC curriculum. The study concludes that structured well-being interventions support students’ emotional development and enhance their academic outcomes.
