Abstract: This work is devoted to evalua琀椀ng the rela琀椀onship between malocclusion and speech disorders to understand their e琀椀ology in schoolchildren for op琀椀mizing diagnos琀椀c and treatment algorithms. Most foreign authors a琀琀ribute dental dysglossia as the main cause, which most o昀琀en manifests as the omission of some le琀琀ers from words, the sub-s琀椀tu琀椀on of phone琀椀cally similar sounds, incorrect pronuncia琀椀on of some sounds, and the inclusion of extra sounds in a word. The study involved 250 schoolchildren aged 7 to 9 years.Ar琀椀cula琀椀on, its mechanisms, central and lateral dental occlusions, ar琀椀culatory praxis, posi琀椀on and size of the tongue at rest, and swallowing func琀椀on were inves琀椀gated.Par琀椀cipants underwent a clinical examina琀椀on by a single assessor under iden琀椀cal condi琀椀ons, which consisted of assessing occlusion, crowding (discrepancy between available space and tooth size), assessing ar琀椀culatory praxis and mas琀椀catory muscles by observing the muscles during balloon in昀氀a琀椀on and palpa琀椀ng the mas琀椀catory muscle when the pa琀椀ent clenches their teeth. The presence of harmful habits was inves琀椀gated through a ques琀椀onnaire with addi琀椀onal answers to a survey provided to parents regarding the child's habits.A correla琀椀on was established between dental malocclusion and ar琀椀culatory praxis in schoolchildren.According to our data, rotacism is observed in 72.5% of cases, and sigma琀椀sm in 68.3%.Thus, the presence of malocclusion can cause an imbalance in the func琀椀oning of the dentomaxillofacial system. It was found that this pathology is associated with harmful habits and func琀椀onal changes in the mas琀椀catory muscles, leading to dysfunc琀椀on of the dentomaxillofacial apparatus.Awareness of this connec琀椀on in young school-aged children will help relevant specialists implement new algorithms for preven琀椀ve and therapeu琀椀c measures for op琀椀mal development of the oral cavity and its structural elements.Key words: maxillofacial deformi琀椀es, speech disorders, tongue, ar琀椀culatory praxis, func琀椀onal disorders of the tongue. Connec琀椀on of the publica琀椀on with planned research works. The work is a fragment of the complex initiative theme of the Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of Poltava State Medical University «Algorithm for comprehensive treatment of inflammatory processes and prevention of pathological scar formation on the skin of the head and neck after elective and emergency surgical interventions», state registration number 0124U000093. Introduction.Articulatory praxis disorders are one of the common speech impairments in young school-aged children and, according to literature data, occur in 37.4-49.8% of all functional disorders of the dentomaxillofacial system [1,2].Most foreign authors attribute dental dysglossia as the main cause, which most often manifests as the omission of some letters from words, the substitution of phonetically similar sounds, incorrect pronunciation of some sounds, and the inclusion of extra sounds in a word [3,4].Many authors have investigated how dental malocclusion affects children's articulation in different languages [5,6].It has been proven that open bite, caused by premature loss of incisors during the transition from primary to permanent teeth, affects speech but does not hinder the process of language acquisition, while posterior crossbite is associated with certain phonetic changes [7,8].Several studies have shown a link between the presence of oral habits and certain occlusal disorders and the function of the masticatory and temporal ORCID and contributionship / ORCID автора та його внесок до статті:
