Abstract: Connec琀椀on of the publica琀椀on with planned research works. The work was carried out within the framework of the state budget topic «The in昀氀uence of endogenous and exogenous factors on the course of the body's adap-琀椀ve reac琀椀ons to physical exer琀椀on of various intensi琀椀es» (state registra琀椀on number 0121U108187). Introduc琀椀on.Knowledge regarding the biological regulatory prop-er琀椀es of melatonin is increasing every year. The aim of this literature review is to show that the physiological role of melatonin is being intensively studied in our 琀椀me.There are s琀椀ll many ques琀椀ons, the answers to which may be obtained in the near future.Melanin, as a food addi琀椀ve or as part of pharma-ceu琀椀cals, is widely used to regulate circadian rhythms, improve sleep [1,2], reduce oxida琀椀ve stress [3,4], and correct immune reac琀椀ons [5,6].But new data on the effect of this substance on various physiological processes give hope for the preven琀椀on of premature age-related neurodegenera琀椀on by melatonin, the correc琀椀on of con-di琀椀ons caused by damage to neurons by reac琀椀ve oxygen species and other harmful factors of oxida琀椀ve stress [3,7].So now we hope to use informa琀椀on about the e昀昀ects of melatonin on physiological processes to correct and restore people who have su昀昀ered from sports or war injuries [6,8]. The aim of the study. To summarize informa琀椀on regarding the physiological role of melatonin under normal condi琀椀ons and during the development of various pathological processes in the body, including neurodegenera琀椀on.Object and research methods. The following methods were used in the literature review: searching for informa琀椀on in the scientometric databases PubMed, Google Scholar and others using the keywords: "melatonin", "neurodegenera琀椀on", "oxida琀椀ve ORCID and contribu琀椀onship / ORCID кожного автора та його внесок до статті:
