Clinical and surgical implications of vomer agenesis and submucosal cleft Palate: Two case reports
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: : Vomer agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly often associated with submucosal cleft palate (SMCP), yet its clinical implications remain poorly understood. We report two cases of vomer agenesis in patients with SMCP presenting with nasal obstruction and otologic symptoms. Both patients underwent surgical interventions tailored to their symptoms. Given the embryological link between the vomer and palatal development, we recommend screening for SMCP in patients with vomer agenesis and vice versa. Additionally, the surgical technique and optimal sequence of surgical interventions for these coexisting anomalies remains unclear, highlighting the need for further research to establish management guidelines.
