Type: article
Abstract: Pragmatic competence is an important component of language ability and occupies a crucial po-sition in the cultivation of English core literacy. This paper aims to explore the roles and effects of the practical activities in the new English textbook for Grade 7 (published by People's Educa-tion Press) in cultivating students' English pragmatic competence. By analyzing the design con-cepts, content organization, and task settings of these practical activities, and integrating prag-matics theory with the requirements of English subject core literacy, this study proposes strate-gies for effectively developing students' pragmatic competence through practical activities. The findings indicate that pragmatic teaching based on practical activities can compensate for the limitations of traditional language knowledge instruction, provide practical references for achieving the "integration of learning and application" in junior high school English classrooms, and hold significant importance for advancing the implementation of the educational value of the English discipline.
