Designing Lighting Control Circuit for Developing Image Scanning Device of Bullet and Cartridge Case Trace
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Firearms are highly lethal weapons primarily used in the military, security, sports, hunting. In addition to their historical, cultural, and national defense significance, firearm-related crime directly impacts a country's security. Besides using traditional optical methods for examining firearm marks, image scanning devices for bullet and cartridge case marks integrated with identification, management, and search software are widely. This study presents the research and design process of a control circuit for a lighting system to develop a scanning device for bullet and cartridge case marks. The lighting system is designed in concentric rings to optimize illumination on the sample surface, such as: illuminance on the sample surface reaching 10,000 lx; light source type: white LED; total number of circularly arranged lights: 80 LEDs, divided into 2tworings, each with eight equally spaced zones; a side lighting module comprising 10 LEDs arranged in 2 rows of 5 LEDs each; and the ability to adjust lighting intensity and switch individual zones on/off via computer-controlled software. The bullets and cartridge cases are illuminated from multiple angles, minimizing shadowing and enhancing lighting efficiency, contributing to acquiring high-quality images that support practical forensic analysis. Keywords: Firearm examination; equipment to examine gun and bullet traces; lighting control circuit
