Abstract: In recent decades there has been increasing talk about global warming and its devastating effects. In recent summers, the whole of Europe has felt trapped in unbearable heatwaves, with countries like Greece. Spain and Portugal have felt the full impact of temperatures of at least 40 degrees in the shade. Against the backdrop of these types of problems, several European institutions and state public authorities have decided to launch afforestation or reforestation programs, generating a degree of satisfaction both at the general level, the state, but also at the level of local communities involved in projects to create what we call urban forests. This study aims to assess what efforts have been made in recent years by countries such as Romania, Hungary or Poland in this regard, what have been the steps taken by the governments of these countries, how NGOs or foundations have been involved in the emergence and development of urban forests and what amounts of money were needed to launch, run and maintain these efforts.
