Mapping global research trends of health economics of neurosurgery: A bibliometric analysis

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The advancement of neurosurgery-related services and technologies continues to inspire progress around the world. However, in other areas of the country or region, some people still have difficulty accessing neurosurgical services due to the shortage of neurosurgeons. One obstacle to providing neurosurgery services is the economic aspect. Neurosurgery services are acknowledged to be expensive and require a significant amount of resources. In starting and improving neurosurgery services, research on the health economics of neurosurgery is very important to determine resource allocation, planning priorities, and evaluation of the benefits of implementation. The recent decade’s surge in healthcare costs has made it crucial to speed up research on neurosurgery’s costs and how to make neurosurgical services more efficient and effective. This study’s result shows that the number of scientific publications in the field of health economics of neurosurgery increased worldwide from 2000 to 2024, with an annual growth rate of 5.36%. This surge in publications underscores the growing recognition of health economics as a crucial factor in enhancing the quality of patient care within the field of neurosurgery. This trend emphasizes the escalating focus on cost-effectiveness management in neurosurgical practices, reflecting the dynamic evolution of research in this specific domain.
