Indicators of organizational happiness: Adaptation of GNH of business to Christian culture

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The pandemic situation of the last few years and the resulting changes in employee needs have also increased the importance of well-being in practice. Emphasis has been placed on work-life balance, home-office and other workplace environments and conditions that support employees’ well-being and satisfaction. Organisational sustainability and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), activities have become more important. The study aims to demonstrate that the Gross National Happiness of Business (GNH of Business) methodology (developed within the framework of Buddhist culture), which takes a holistic approach to meet these requirements, can be applied in Christian religious and cultural contexts. It can be used to identify the indicators that impact employee satisfaction, well-being and overall organisational happiness. The quantitative research (conducted in 2023–24) covered 773 organizations. Statistical analyses (cluster analysis, logistic regression, discriminant analysis) were carried out in addition to the “GNH of Business” methodology. The results show that the level of employee happiness in the organisations studied is below average, mainly in “quality of life” and “psychological well-being”. An organisational culture based on trust and a work-life balance that provides long-term security, continuous development and preparation for retirement is a key to sustainable organisational functioning and employee well-being.
