The relationship between apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac death: benign indeed?
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study demonstrated that apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) accounted for 15.6% of patients who underwent implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation. The proportion of ICD implantations for secondary prevention did not differ significantly between apical and non-apical HCM subtypes. These findings suggest that the clinical course of apical HCM may not be as benign as previously assumed, and that patients with apical HCM remain at a substantial risk for serious cardiac events.Accordingly, ICD implantation should be considered in high-risk patients with apical HCM.
