Against this backdrop, interpersonal emotion regulation—an essential strategy for individuals to cope with emotional fluctuations in social contexts—has emerged as a critical research topic in psychological studies regarding its relationship with depression. This paper systematically reviews the conceptual definitions, theoretical foundations, and measurement methodologies of both interpersonal emotion regulation and depression, while exploring the intricate relationship between interpersonal emotion regulation and depressive symptoms.
